Machu Picchu sits on the cloud-forest edge: warmer and wetter than Cusco. In the shoulder months there is less dawn fog and shorter queues at the citadel.
The route stays around 2,430 m above sea level. If you are coming from the coast, it is usual to spend a day or two acclimatising first: walk slowly, drink plenty of water and leave the alcohol for later. Tell us your itinerary and we will adjust the pace of the first day.
